Greatest day of the year

It is the greatest day of the year, The home opener, better if the home opener is the first game too. This year it isn't though, and we have played three Concacaf tournment games too.
DC United has it's MLS Home Opener today, looks like the rain is going to hold off. Dads look at their kids with a little twinkle in their eye, because we know there are several months of special moments to spend with their children. We have several tournaments going on this summer, Olympics both the Men and Women teams are involved. Brasil and USA are going for the gold. Think Green and Gold all the way, go Marta. US Open Cup, Super Liga, MLS Cup, Concacaf Champions cup, two times, MLS Reserve League and hopefully ending with a DC United win in the Club World championship.
I get to spend the summer with my kids in the warm weather, watching MLS and USL teams in person and watching all of these tournaments on TV, listening to my son root for the black and red, white and red or honestly analyze the team when there is no red involved. Yes he is only five. That is what happens when you have brasilian blood, and your first soccer team has Red jerseys.
Such a magical day for all MLS soccer supporters the black hole is now closed and the games have begun. Let Parents and children rejoice and share those magical moments, Saturday and Thursday nights week in and week out. Hopefully for many soccer dads some magical moments with soccer mom as well, of course after the games. We await our morning fix from Goff, Ives and the Soccer Daily to find out what is going on around the league. You just got to love it!
Truely the greatest day of the year.

I am not a Beckham supporter, in fact the hype just annoys me more than a paper cut. Thursday evening though watching LA v San Jose, I noticed something with Beckham. When he scored he seemed like a normal guy, thrilled to death about his goal, his first MLS goal. When Landon scored on the assist from David to see him come running and jump on Landon's back like a kid who just won the state championship, proved something to me. David is a normal guy, taking advantage and making all the money he can, but a guy who just wants to play futbol. So David I am not thrilled about the hype machine associated with you, but I have a new found respect for you. This after seeing him visibly annoyed Saturday night when LA was down 4-0. Vasco thinks that David's lasting impact will be for the fans, when he teaches the players that every game counts. Now if the teams just start taking the US Open cup seriously, but that is another rant entirely.
